Refund theft
Criminals file false tax returns or supply other bogus information to the IRS to divert tax refunds to the wrong address or bank account. This year, fraudsters have used the same tactics to steal the payments provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, known as the CARES act.
