As April 15 approaches, there’s a lot of chatter about federal taxes. But state and local governments also require people to pony up, with wide differences in what folks pay from state to state. WalletHub, which ranks the states by their combined state and local tax rates, notes that residents of the states with the highest tax rates pay three times as much as those in the states with the lowest tax rates.
The WalletHub ranking takes into account income taxes, real estate taxes, vehicle taxes, property taxes, and sales and excise taxes.
